India has marked a remarkable achievement in space exploration with the successful commencement of its maiden solar space mission Aditya L1. This feat follows closely on the heels of India’s historic accomplishment of executing a gentle touchdown of a spacecraft on the uncharted southern pole of the Moon.

The Aditya L1 mission is equipped with seven payloads, each serving a distinct scientific purpose, including the Visible Emission Line Coronagraph (VELC), Solar Ultraviolet Imaging Telescope (SUIT), Solar Low Energy X-ray Spectrometer (SoLEXS); High Energy L1 Orbiting X-ray Spectrometer (HEL1OS); Aditya Solar wind Particle Experiment (ASPEX); Plasma Analyser Package For Aditya (PAPA); and Advanced Tri-axial High Resolution Digital Magnetometers. Notably, the solar panels on Aditya-L1 have been deployed, initiating the generation of electrical power.

In the wake of the launch, ISRO Chairperson S. Somanath articulated, “The Aditya L1 spacecraft has been precisely inserted into an elliptical orbit measuring 235 km by 19,500 km, aligning perfectly with our intended trajectory. This mission is undeniably exceptional. Going forward, Aditya-L1 will embark on its prolonged journey. Following a series of maneuvers, it will commence its expedition toward the L-1 point, a protracted odyssey spanning nearly 125 days.”
